At Mini Code Breakers, safeguarding our students is of paramount importance.
We ensure our students learn in a safe, caring and enriching environment and we take full responsibility to place appropriate Safeguarding for all children in our care during Mini Code Breakers (MCB).
Our safeguarding policy focuses on the attendance of children under the age of 14 as well as all staff and volunteers involved in Mini Code breakers, delivering all sessions in person.
We provide appropriate Disclosure and Barring Service checks on all our staff as they work with children as part of their activities. These activities include mentoring children and helping children learn to code. We do not tolerate any misbehaviour and if this behaviour occurs we inform parents immediately at the end of the session and a plan of action is recorded. We have a zero bullying environment.
We treat each other with respect and are comfortable about sharing concerns.
We minimise the risk of injury by having various safety measures in place e.g:
No food consumed on the premises
Water bottles underneath tables to prevent being knocked over, avoiding risk to others.
Any floor cables are covered with a trip guard to avoid any trips and injuries.
Any equipment used is safe and storage out of reach of children.
We ensure all MCB staff present on the premises early to set up equipment and be ready to greet all students on time. All staff are aware of this procedure and will abide by it.
To ensure the safety of our students, we as a club, have the following procedures in place:
We aim to have a ratio of 12:2 across all classes.
Have all SEN recorded for students along with parental details.
All students are registered on arrival, line up and walk sensibly to their classroom.
During our sessions, respect and consideration is encouraged throughout to ensure all students feel confident to answer questions or voice their opinion when being creative and solving problems.
Dismissal of our students is one at a time to ensure they are collected safely by their parents/guardians.
Management of Parents
Always greet parents with a smile, make conversation & be friendly.
Encourage transparency with parents and children.
Any issues or concerns to be spoken to parents/guardians directly after the session.
Keep the child at the end of the session and walk over to the parent with that child.
Follow up with email
Refer to behaviour policy
Thank parents, wave to them when dismissing their child to acknowledge it is the correct parent.
Management of Students
Create a fair and structured approach to all behaviours and needs.
All students line up in an orderly fashion, no student to run or be in front of the lead teacher when moving to and from the classroom.
Dismissal of class is organised, students are dismissed one at a time safely to their parents.
If there are any issues within the class, staff take into consideration any SEN before speaking with parents (ensure you have enough knowledge of their condition prior to parental engagement).
Speak with parents to provide solutions.
Review how this solution works, following week, consecutive weeks and praise if change is made (don't just focus on the negative).
